need help with wheel and tire sizes i have a 2002 z28. my stock tire size is p245/50zr 16 all around. i want bigger tires for the rear more like 17's or 18's. My questions is can i put those size tire's on and keep my stock wheels or do i have to change them to my increased tire size as well?

245 - tire width
50 - sidewall height as a percentage of tire width
16 - wheel diameter
So on stock 16" wheels, the tires need to be 16s too.
You can go wider though, some people have 255/50-16 tires on their stock wheels.

Re: need help with wheel and tire sizes the last number is the diameter of the rim in inches... so u can't put a 17" tire on a 16" rim... most people want a taller rim, y do u want the stock rim? what exactly r u looking for? wider tires? taller tires? more sidewall? less sidewall? sizes that have similar overall diameters to the stock tires are:
245/50x16 = 25.7
255/50x16 = 26.0
275/50x16 = 26.8
245/45x17 = 25.7
265/40x17 = 25.3
275/40x17 = 25.7
285/40x17 = 26.0
315/35x17 = 25.7
245/40x18 = 25.7
