Default 225/60/16 on a 00 ta

can i put 226/60/16 tires on my 2000 Trans am and not have any prob with the abs? i got 4 brand new tires for free and was wondering if that would work. cuz i had 225/50/16 in the front and 235/60/16 in the rear and that made the abs light come on. so if all the tires were the same would the light still come on? thanks

the light went on because the rear tires were taller than the front ones... so the front wheels were spinning faster, and the ABS system was like WATF.

you have to make sure they have the same height

You probably shouldn't be going that fast with junkyard sized tires.

http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp

Use this. Just make sure the overall diameter is close to the same as possible.

Those free tires are about an inch taller than the tires that are supposed to be on there. Compatible tires are 245/50/16, 275/40/17, and 315/35/17 because all of them have an overall tire height of 25.6". The tires you got are 26.6" tall, that's quite a difference, and while it will not cause problems with the ABS, it potentially will throw your speedo off a bit.

If your car is a V8 car, and I assume it is, and if those free tires are not Z rated, which I assume they aren't, and if the shop mounting the tires for you plays by the rules, which I am hoping they are, then they won't even mount those tires for you. That's because a shop is not supposed to mount any tire on a car that has a lower speed rating than what is indicated on the door jamb sticker from GM due to liability issues.

Free tires are great and all, but I'd try to sell these to someone else and get the proper tire.

Just my opinion.

Duh, I'm selling some good 245/50/16's for $35.00 a piece. They have about 1/2 tread. Check out my ad.
