drag radials in the rain
drag radials in the rain I'm getting Mickey Thompson ET Streets size 255/50/16 for my rear wheels on my Formula. I was thinking of getting a second set of rims. I was just wondering how bad these handle in the rain. Are they like impossible to drive in the rain, even at speeds around 35mph? Is it necessary for me to have a second set of wheels? I know it would make things easier, but I first just wanted input from people who have these. Thanks.
never had m/t drag radials but i had BFG radials and they were not to bad. 40mph was drivable, anything more than that was unsafe. Its not bad after its done raining with wet roads. just bad when there is alot of build up on the roads.

as long as you're aware that you have them on the car and aren't an idiot, no problems in the rain....i drive all summer with et streets on the back of my malibu and drive it in all weather, never a problem controling it

I have the M/T's and I drove from Detroit to Chicago on I-94 when it was raining the whole way, even at 75MPH. Some people might say that was stupid, but the car was as stable with M/T's as regular tires. Before I got on the expressway I did a hole shot on wet pavement and the damn thing near hooked on water, no lie. My car isn't the fastest in the world, but it is still an LS1.

Drag radials are safe in the rain - until you hydroplane. Get a spare set of wheels and enjoy the peace of mind. That's what I do; I'll drive on my MT's for weeks at a time when it's dry, back to street tires when it rains.
I agree that the drag radials will be ok in the rain as long as it isn't coming down too hard. I was on the way to the track driving on my MT drag radials and it started to rain. It wasn't bad at all while the rain was light, but all the sudden there was a short downpour and I was all over the highway. If there is any kind of standing water you need to be driving under 25mph. It was honestly one of the scariest moments Ive had in my car. It felt like there was nothing holding the rearend to the car and it was free to turn and twist in any direction. I wonder what the traffic behind me was thinking when they saw my car nearly out of control fishtailing down the highway at 70 mph.

my buddy drives daily on mt et street radials325/50/15s on his dart. with no problems. he made the mistake of driving home from the track on goodyears slicks in the rain. spun around twice that night. the dr are way different. just remember your not on a normal radial.
