BFG KDW's Questions
anyways i just bought some 2002 ws6 rims w/ 275 KDW's on them. two have 1/2 tread life and the other two like barley anything left but still usable for a month or two. my question is since this will be my DD should i put the ones with more tread on the front or back. ill try to stay out of rain but if i get caught then thats why im asking. i think i should put the set with more tread on the back but the guy that sold them to me said he would put them on the front.
also someone said KDW's have hydroplaning issues so if anyone knows about this help me out with some better info on whether or not i should even drive in the rain with these tires. my plan is too start driving the t/a in april and buy nitto NT555's, the street ones, and put them on the back when i have enough cash. im just wondering if their is a better tire for the price out their then the nitto's in your guys opinions.
thanks alot

Next it all depends on if these are the new style KDW's or old style, but considering how you wrote it I am going to assume they are the old style and tell you that IMO they are dangerous in the rain. I hydroplaned my '05 GTO at 40MPH and totalled it, so enough said about that. I have an '06 GTO now with the new style KDW's and they are great wet or dry. I am on my second set of 275 rear's which the first set lasted 30000 miles (yep some racing shortened their life) and the fronts (245's) have about 5K left on them.

Any tire will hydroplane . . . now granted the tread pattern will also increase or descrease the likely hood . . . .

And i really dont care what you say either..not to be rude...its a proven fact that the better tire goes on the rear..especially on a rear wheel drive where the back end is more likely to come around..there have been plenty of tests to confirm that it is safer
Next I think someone had better tell BFG that they don't make the tire they are showing as available on their website:
http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/specs...-a-kdw/22.html
Specs cut and pasted:
275/40ZR17 98Y BSW 42899 9 - 11 10.9 on 9.5 25.7 10 810 1653@44 TT, DIR
AND
275/40ZR18 99Y BSW 41503 9 - 11 10.9 on 9.5 26.7 10 779 1709@44 TT, DIR
In your defense I think these are both fairly new releases since a 40 aspect was not available last year in a 18 when I bought my new rear 275/35ZR/18ones to replace the ones I wore out.
The sad thing is that no one makes anything larger than a 35 aspect ratio in a 17 inch when you get up above the 300 mark. I know because I have 315/35/17 Goodyear F-1's on my '56 and I would love to up size to a 45 or 50 aspect ratio but they stop at 285's in the 17's. Unless someone would like to prove me wrong (I'm hoping!)
