I believe those are 17 x 10.5, and the tire should be 315/35/17. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Plain and simple, 315's require a 10.5" or wider wheel.

What is so hard to understand that?

Discussing the 315 on a 9" wide wheel is DANGEROUS. If you want to be ignorant and disregard manufacturer recommendations, and put the risk into your own hands then fine, but I will not tollerate recommending it to anyone.

Period.
Xsta Z 28 well said, Other Forum moderators should be so smart.

They all recommend a 10.5" wheel but I have seen 315 Nittos compared to other tires in a 275 and they are very, very similar in size. Hell a good friend of mine has 315 Nittos on a set of 17x17 torq thrust 2s and I have the 315 MT ET Street DRs on the same wheels. My tires look MUCH bigger than his do.

A 315 on a 9 inch wheel CAN be dangerous, I will agree to that. I personally don't think a 315 Nitto is as dangerous as others but I will not tell someone that is ok. I will say the same as what I said before but I won't tell them to go through with it.

So you can get a blow-out using wheels that are too narrow for the 315 tire; right?

yawn... 315 nittos are fine on a 9.5 rim like the zr1. I understand that people want to be safe and follow manufacture guidelines, but nitto runs small. if you just make a blanket statement like 315 dont fit period, your the ignorant one. try running a 315 BFG and yeah, your screwed. i have run the **** out of my nitto drag radials ( i think im on my 5th pair) over the last two years and i have put at least 60,000 miles on nitto DR over the past 2 years with no problems at all. and the vast majority of my driving is on the crappy city roads of jackson.

its hilarious to see these people get worked up over an internet forum. what is a matter with these looney toons?

no disrespect intended, becuase i fully undestand the need to be safe especially with your wheels and tires, but if we all followed OEM specifications, hot rodding wouldnt make much sense and the modding would be moot.

For the un-informed tire novices in teh crowd; what exactly is the danger? I assume a 315 tire mounted on a 9 inch rim can cause the tire to deflate at speed and casue a wreck; right?

I don't see a problem putting them on stock wheels but to avoid the thread getting locked that is all I will say.
i slaughtered my first set and i am on the second set. maybe ten thousand miles?
