Which is better for traction a 255/50/16 or a 245/50/16?

I've seen quite a few members running low 12s on the 255/50/16. There's not much difference between the two but personally I'd go with the larger of the two tires.

It's not so much the size as it is the tire. Mickey Thompsons and BFGs come in 255 and they hook up better than Nittos which come in 245.

One more thing to think about, my past experiences with stickies were DRs hooked better on auto cars and ET street type tires were better on manuals. It seemed that the softer sidewall on the ET streets put less stress on the rearends and hooked better. FWIW
