Nitto DR question

I'm driving a 1999 pontiac formula (see sig for details) which I purchased a few months ago. This is my first V8 sports car. I have owned a 1972 MGB 4-speed manual, three cavalier automatics, two camaro V6 autos and two firebird V6 autos. So as you can see I am now on cloud nine with my LS1

Anyway I plan to add a few more bolt-ons including headers and either a torque converter or M6 swap. If I stay with the auto I'll get probably a 3300-3800 stall maybe 2.1 str converter (no plans for H/C, N20 or SC). This I have been told will eat my street tires alive. Since this is a daily driver I will be putting Nitto DR's on my car along with SFC and a STB. The converter, shift kit, trans cooler & suspension mods will cost a nice dollar obviously so what I want to know is this.
Will it hurt anything to buy two Nitto DR's (obviously for the back) and leave my KDW's on the front for awhile? I plan to visit the track once a month for a few runs on the 1/4 mile. It would obviously be alot cheaper upfront if that will work ok and then I can put new Nittos on the front next year.
Do people do this or does it screw up alignment or balancing? Thanks in advance for any tips/advice. All input is greatly appreciated.
Running new drag radials on the back won't hurt a thing. Thats basically what everyone does, the brands do not have to match. Nittos are basically like any other radial tire, but with a softer compound.

We have a US41 track rental coming up next weekend (www.mfba.org) so you could come out and see what combos folks are using.
Nittos drive great in the rain, I have driven then halfway across the US.
They are NOT that great when it gets super cold out, like in Jan - March in Chicago. You should put stock tires back on the back OR hit the MFBA board and buy some used snow tires already mounted on rims. Used stock twisted spoke rims are cheeep.
