Default this leak is driving me nuts - can u help?

while changing my oil filter...i took a look at the metal rod that connects my steering system to the tire....on the driver's side...when you turn the steering wheel...the metal rod moves and makes the tire turn left or right.
attached to this rod is a black, rubber accordion looking thing. it had brown/golden fluid dripping from it.

first, does this accordion thing have fluid?
second, could the fluid be from somewhere else?

appreciate any replies ...this problem really has me worried/frustrated. (used z28, '98, 41,8XX miles, no engine mods, flowmaster exhaust, stb, sfc)

That accordion boot is just a dust seal for the end of the hydraulic steering rack. There is a little grease inside, but only on the ball joint at the end. If you are seeing a drip, I would suspect it is a leak coming from the power steering pump located above it. Might be dripping onto that boot.

thanks for the reply...yes, others have said they suspect the same. I have an appointment with GM and just hope the leak doesn't vanish when I take her in. thank goodness i have the extended warranty.
