How To READ OFFSET
How do you actually measure an offset on a wheel??
The reason that I'm asking is that my 1000 Miglias came from a wrecked BMW M5 that slid and wrapped itself side ways at the door on a pole. Bolt pattern is the same as Camaro's. I practically stole them from the J-Yard. ($100) a piece.(They are $700+ brand new/wheel)
They stick out a little too much (too ghetto for my taste).
I want to measure the offset and shave them to the right Camaro settings.
HELP and all posts welcome
Thanks a bunch

Re: How To READ OFFSET
I believe offset is the distance between the wheel mounting face (backside of lug area) and the dead center of the width of the wheel.
So, measure the width of the wheel from outside to outside edge, divide by 2. Then measure the distance between the backside edge of the wheel and the backside of the lug mounting face (backspacing) and then subtract 1/2 the width measured previously.

Re: How To READ OFFSET
This may alittle added info that you may not need and may not apply to your situation but may address other peoples concerns....Offset is not the best way to measure a wheel from manufacture to manufacture as there is not a standard (measuring lip differences). I see occasionally posts of guys asking for a specific offset from one manufacture and want another manufacture to duplicate the same offset.
B/S is the only true measurement and what I suggest people to go by.
Here's a generalized formula for offset for you (synopisis of Tony's response)
Width of rim / 2=Centerline
Centerline - Backspace = Offset
For example:
10/2=5
5-7.5=-2.5 inches NEGATIVE offset OR -2.5*25.4=-63.5mm NEGATIVE offset
Hope this helps,
Steve

Re: How To READ OFFSET
Yeap this is exactly what I need. Now roll up the sleeves and get to work to tuck those babies in.
So if the wheels stuck out by 3/4 inch (Front), i'll shave that off the backspace (Taking into consideration that the back lip will not rub on any parts) and I should be good! Same deal but 1/2 inch in the back.
Thanks guys.
