Default Tire size questions.

I'm looking at tires right now and I have no idea what the hell pretty much anything means! The ony thing I can pull out of all this info is the rim size the tire goes on.

Can someone pull this apart and explain what this example means?

205/50R-17

Sorry for what may seem like a dumb question, but i'm over here getting stumped at a damn tire magazine trying to figure out what the hell all that means. The only thing I can pull out of that is the 17 which i'm pretty sure means the rim size.

Thanks,
- Mike

205 is the section width of the tire in millimeters

50 is height of the sidewall expressed as a percentage of the section width, i.e. 50% of 205mm

17 is the rim diameter

Hope that helps. Read the wheel and tire sticky. It will answer almost all your wheel questions

I looked through the stickies before I posted and found nothing.

Maybe I'm just a bad searcher?

(Thanks for the info)
