Default What to do with the FM/10's

Well I have my FM/10's taken apart. I'm taking them apart, cleaning, and polishing them and also sanding out a little curb rash the previous owner decided to grace me with (nobody on here).

This is how they look now, and don't get me wrong, I love them, but I think its time for a change:

The pictures are ancient and probably from when I got the car and I don't have any with how the car sits now (both height and appearance wise). But its a good idea of what it looks like.

I really have 4 options in mind:

1. leave them as they are and just clean them up/polish the lips.

2. Have the centers powder coated similar to iForged Hyper Gun metal: (see chart)

3. Have the centers powder coated similar to iForged Semi Gloss Black: (see above chart)

4. Have the centers stripped and polished.

What do you guys think? Normally I don't like black wheels, but I think they could pull it off, but I'm really liking the Hyper Gun metal, and am also kicking around the idea of a light semi gloss grey.

Semi-gloss black for the centers.

Brushed finish w/clear powder coat on the hoops.

Thanks! I'm going to be leaving the hoops as they are so the lips will be polished for all options. I forgot to mention that

I think you're onto something with the hyper gunmetal, but I do like them as they are. You tired of polishing them? Nickel silver centers wouldn't look bad and would be a bit easier to keep clean. (They are entirely polished currently right?)

Nah, the centers are TechniPolish w/a clear coat, all I polish is the lips. I do like the hyper gun metal alot, and the nickel is very similar to the grey I had in mind...

I dunno man its tough. If its cheaper to just keep the centers as they are, do that. I don't think changing the color would really be worth it IMO as far as appearance vs cost. As far as fixing the issues go for it, and if they repolish the lips in the process, even better. You really should concentrate on getting that thing to make a clean pass before you spend much dough on piddly junk... Trust me, I'm bad about that myself

Honestly man, I think they look great just how they are! Black and chrome/polished is the classiest look you can get. I think once you paint the centers black, or dark, you loose all the detail of the inner area. It's always been my belief that if you want dark rims, just get some cheap-o ones and paint those. I would just hate to see them butchered by getting them painted and loosing that classy look.

I love your car, honestly. I would just clean them up and leave them.

If you're going to do anything go hyper-gunmetal.

Otherwise, leave them be. They look awesome as-is!

I have classics in black on my black car: http://s114.photobucket.com/albums/n269/ponyackn/

Different wheels but somewhat similar. I also thought of the idea of a dark gray for centers just to set the wheels off from the black car but thought I'd try black on black first and I'm happy I did. I still wonder what it would've been like with the hoops painted black too though.

Edit: BTW, I think the technipolished fm10's that you have look way too sick to change but I know how you feel on trying something different.

Got to agree, if you went with one of the two I say the hyper gunmetal its not as dark and you wont loose as much detail.

Would be different if you powercoated the centers bronze and left the lip polished. Black and bronze go together well. I have two friends that had two different shades of bronze wheels on their black cars, one if which was an lt1 fbody.

I know it's a bit hard to see the wheels on the fbody but they looked sick and the 944 in general looks mean.

I say either a darker gray like a gunmetal or leave them alone. Black with a polished lip is WAY too played out if you ask me.

Some cars can still pull it off but I don't see it working on your car.

EDIT: I voted for gunmetal but after looking at the chart I say anthracite.

Something I never see mentioned on here is that dark gunmetal always looks dirty to me. Right now the wheels on the front of my truck looks very similar due to built up brake dust. IMO if I were want dark centers on my wheels I would just go black with a polished lip. But even that still looks dirty sometimes IMO.
