quick question
quick question I tried replacing the door speakers on my '98 camaro with some Alpine Type R's I had laying around. I pulled the drivers side out and wired one up and it was nowhere near as loud as my stock one. I wired the stock one back up and it was fine. Any ideas?
It's got a Pioneer HU that I put in and it had a busted aftermarket cd player when I got the car. There are 4 wires on the stock speaker and only 2 terminals for speaker wires on the Alpines.

I just ran out the the garage and looked at them. They are coaxial and they are 4 ohms. Unfortunately I couldn't tell you what the factory ones are because I reinstalled them.

Two of the wires power the factory tweeter and two power the factory woofer. You have to mimic this with your Alpines. Take a look at the wires already on the Alpines. Do you see the wires running to the tweeter on them? You'll have to cut them and power them seperately from the woofer. (which would just use the regular terminals) See the Monsoon thread at the top of this forum for more info.

that and paper cone's from the factory don't need a lot of power to sound decent like maybe 12-15W. Type R's from Alpine need a substantial amount more to do the same...of course, running through the factory amp isn't helping you out much either.

yeah the camaro's are 2 ohms and its a comp set mounted as a coaxial. A direct replacement is the infinity kappa 62.7i. Its a 2 ohm coaxial that will wire up perfectly. Theres a write up on ls1.com that i followed and they sounded good off just a headunit.
