Want to add a SUB BOX and AMP???? My Monsoon in my 99 SS is crap to say the least....my 1998 Z28's NON-MONSOON blows the SS's MONSOON away! I hear conflicting stories...one guy told me the two systems are almost identical (the 500 WATT VS the 200 WATT)...and another tell me they are two different systems. I tend to agree that the two systems have nothing in common, my MONSOON (200 watt) has NO bass what so ever, compared to even my 1998 Z28s Non-monsoon and my old 2000 WS6 stock system crushed both of these! So I was thinking about simply having a SUBTHUMP box with two 10s or two 12s and an amp. Before I go to a quality stereo shop and have some tool give me some outlandish price I would like to have an idea of what it should cost to have a SUB amp, box, and two subs installed into a 1999 CAMARO SS 200 WATT CD MONSOON system; retaining all the factory speakers in the other areas.

Are you sure that the sail panel subs aren't just blown (they're infamous for doing that)? That would account for the lack of bass.
The 200W Monsoon is the same system as the 500W Monsoon, right down to the individual part numbers. GM just decided it sounded more impressive to publish the peak power numbers instead of the RMS numbers. Firebird systems are different from Camaro and have somewhat more bass because they run two channels from the amp to each of the subs instead of the single channel used in Camaro systems. The non-Monsoon systems are completely different with no amplifier, only four speakers, and no signal filtering.

I don't know...I bought the car brand new and it was never any different then right now. My WS6 sounded like it had subs in the back comared to this car and my Z28s BASS actually hits, not this SS though...something has to be wrong either the speakers or the AMP.

Most likely the sails are blown. My SS used to have decent bass for a stock system till the sails blew then it had almost none, not long after the doors started getting worse to the point you have to turn the bass down and fade to the rear a bit so it dosnt vibrate so much in the door speakers. It sounds like ****, but I just got my new CDT CL-6s in yesterday and it sounds much better. Still, Im going to wait till i get the door speakers in tomorrow before I say how good they really are, the door speakers are still blown and sound like ****. Either way they work unlike the old ones, they're known to blow out.
When I get my doors installed im ordering a stealth box that mounts in the area on the left of the trunk and an Apine Type R. That outta bump up the bass a bit, as i like it to hit, and still have room for my Ttops.

EDIT- also your speakers probly sound like crap because you have the bass up to high. those little bettys arent made for all that movement.(im assuming your listening to rap)
