I have installed 2 of these in Mom's Tahoe and My Bro's 1500 Pickup.
they work great, and charges the more current ipods, Nano, Nano with video, 3G, 3GS phones, and the sound Quality is Great. and steering wheel controls work. Install takes minutes.
down side is you will loose your external cd changer.

None of them will work if you have a factory single CD head unit in your '97. These adapters all require CD changer support and only cassette head units supported a changer in '97.

Yes, your 2000 head unit supports a CD changer. If it's a Monsoon system, the changer cable is already installed in the car but the cable isn't necessary since the iPod adapter replaces the CD changer connection.
The following models were CD changer compatible:
- all 97-02 cassette head units
- 00-02 CD head units
(some 99 model CD HUs worked but it is difficult to determine without actually trying it)

actually if I was to buy a 00-02 radio would I also be able to buy a 00-02 steering wheel with radio controls and make it work?

USASpec sent me a modified wiring schematic to cut all power to the PA11 when the car is off. Trouble is that resets the unit and ipod all the time.
