Aftermarket Head Unit Problems
Recently I installed an aftermarket head unit. I used the wiring harness adapter, and spliced it into the HU wiring harness. I used the little tube connectors, that seem to fit pretty snug around the connection. I crimped the crap out of them. I then used zip ties to hold all the wires together to keep it neat.
After a couple of days the HU started to cut out intermitently. My car shakes alot, and rides kind of rough, so I figured maybe one of the connections had come loose. I took the head unit back out, and redid the connections. I paid alot of attention to the power, and ground.
This worked for a day or so, and it start cutting out again over big bumps and when banging through gears.
So, I took the HU out agains, and put electrical tape around the connections to make sure none of the wires could come loose. My neat wiring harness started looking less neat, but I figured this would do the trick. It didn't.
Am I overlooking something. Is it possible the fuse is comming loose? It felt snug. Should I try and replace the fuse? Are there any common problems that might be causing this? I am beginning to get a bit frustrated with what I thought was a simple aftermarket HU install.
Also by cutting out do you mean the power or the sound?
Am I overlooking anything obvious? I guess I will go get another fuse on my lunch break tomorrow. I am too busy to mess with it tonight.
