Default Aftermarket Head Unit Problems

This might be a newb question, but I can't figure it out.

Recently I installed an aftermarket head unit. I used the wiring harness adapter, and spliced it into the HU wiring harness. I used the little tube connectors, that seem to fit pretty snug around the connection. I crimped the crap out of them. I then used zip ties to hold all the wires together to keep it neat.

After a couple of days the HU started to cut out intermitently. My car shakes alot, and rides kind of rough, so I figured maybe one of the connections had come loose. I took the head unit back out, and redid the connections. I paid alot of attention to the power, and ground.

This worked for a day or so, and it start cutting out again over big bumps and when banging through gears.

So, I took the HU out agains, and put electrical tape around the connections to make sure none of the wires could come loose. My neat wiring harness started looking less neat, but I figured this would do the trick. It didn't.

Am I overlooking something. Is it possible the fuse is comming loose? It felt snug. Should I try and replace the fuse? Are there any common problems that might be causing this? I am beginning to get a bit frustrated with what I thought was a simple aftermarket HU install.

Well if it is cutting in and out over bumps then you have something loose. I would check your ground first and make sure you have the wire for the battery and the wire for the ignition wired correctly.

Also by cutting out do you mean the power or the sound?

could be a loose fuse,

try powering from different place and pick a good ground spot.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. The power is cutting out. Everything is wired up correctly. The cutting out is not very often. Maybe once or twice every 20 miles or so. Its not constant, so I am pretty sure everything is wired correctly. I have pulled the thing out 3 times, so I figure I would have caught a wiring issue by now.

The power/ground wires are spliced into the factory wires, so I figure they should be good. They are connected very securely.

Am I overlooking anything obvious? I guess I will go get another fuse on my lunch break tomorrow. I am too busy to mess with it tonight.
