stereo stuck on and lighting problem...
First of all, I searched and got some helpful info as far as the BCM goes but I want to ask something related to the BCM problem... For starters, the power windows work fine. The feature ( RAP? ) that keeps the radio on after the ignition is turned off does not. If the drivers door is opened the stereo stays on and the dome light does not turn on, but if the passenger door is opened the stereo shuts off and the lights come on. Is this possibly the BCM soldering issues ive read about or likely the switch? Second, the headlights come on as soon as the key is turned on after its a bit dark out, even with the e-brake set. Now my 2002 blazer has a photo cell in the dash and it doesnt turn the lights on after dark until the e-brake is released. Is this how the camaro should operate? Im not familiar with the car that much, it belongs to my mom. And last, the cigarette lighter fuse will not blow as long as the lighter isnt used ( not sure what else is tied into the power source ( I know the ECU provides power to a scanner via this fuse, anything else? ) but the second you push it in, the fuse blows. is it possible any of these problems are related, or does it seem to be needing a new drivers door switch, find a ground on the lighter, and the auto-headlights all adressed seperately? I just returned the car to her after changing the check valve in the AIR system but I wanted to gather some info and then maybe pick the car up in a few days and try again on the electrical.
The first is almost certainly the left door switch. It is possible it could be the wiring between the switch and the BCM but the switch itself is the most common problem. Unlike older cars, there is no pin switch in the door frame - the switch is part of the door latch. Try cleaning it first because sometimes they just get gummed up with road grime.
The second is a problem - the automatic headlights should not go on if the ignition is turned on with the parking brake engaged. However, once the parking brake has been released and the automatic headlights go on, engaging the parking brake will not make them turn off. Does the BRAKE light on the dash illuminate when the parking brake is engaged? It could be the parking brake switch is bad.
The third problem might be the lighter element itself. I once installed a lighter element purchased at Pep Boys that would blow the fuse every time it was used. It looked and fit exactly like a factory lighter but never worked properly. Replacing it with a factory lighter element solved the problem for just a couple of dollars more than the Pep Boys one.
