Assumeing its electrical
Well i made a trip to california last week and used an auto transport for my 2000 z28. When i make it down to my final destination i unload the marro and notice that the secrutiy light is on. The car starts up fine on one crank but the light dosen't turn off. I disconnected the battery and it continues to stay on. I did notice during the trip down there that the horn went off a few times on some of the ruff roads i went through...could that of caused something...
I'm opened to any suggestions.
common for em to go bad
It indicates that the BCM isn't reading the correct resistance from the ignition key. Most often this is caused by grime on the key. Try cleaning the key pellet contacts with a pencil eraser and some rubbing alcohol. Also, spray some electronic contact cleaner into the ignition cylinder to clean the contacts in there.
I'm curious though... how could anything electrical in the car work with the battery disconnected?
