Default HVAC Control panel??

Any of you guys have any idea where to get the HVAC control panel module for a 2002 or how much it would cost? Reason being that I am soon to be installing a rear hatch that has a defroster... but I don't have the factory installed panel with the defroster switch. I'd imagine that the wiring is there, but I would just need a new panel with a defroster switch in it to get it to work. I'd prefer to keep it lookin factory instead of trying to ghetto wire a switch in place somewhere. Any thoughts would help!

Just a thought, but have you checked this site's "Parts For Sale" section. I know I saw several Camaros being parted out in there. Just inquire with someone that is parting out the entire car. You'll find it in there cheaper than buying new.

Ya know... that would make sense. I posted this last night when I was tired and was in the middle of a brain fart. Thanks Tony.

With the exception of the blower relay, all of the HVAC controls circuits are in the PCM. The rear defroster controls, including the timer relay, are completely contained in the HVAC control panel on the dash. In other words, you only need the HVAC control panel, the hatch glass with the defroster grid, and the wires in between to make it work.

As far as the wiring goes, you may need to buy (or make) the sub-harness that goes from the connector under the headliner near the dome light to the defroster grid. Although the wiring up to that connector might very well be installed even without the defroster option, I doubt the sub-harness would be there. The connector will have two wires - the light blue wire is for the spoiler brake light and the purple wire is the power feed for the defroster. The defroster grid grounds through a black wire to the bolt in the roof next to the dome light.

Well, to change subject ever so slightly.....My concern is with the dark green wire with the white stripe coming off of the HVAC control panel....I looked in the back of the Haynes manual at the schematic for the HVAC....it shows this particular wire going to the PCM....I just thought that might have been a goof and there was some type of module between the panel and the PCM. If it does in fact go straight to the PCM, can I rewire it without major problems? I, by a stupid manuever, melted the insulation off of that wire close to the panel...but I don't think it went all the way to the PCM.....the main thing is, if it can be rewired, there is two dark green with white stripe wires going into the PCM. How can I determine which one is coming from the HVAC control panel? I know the other one is going to the AC relay. Any suggestions or warnings, or just good ol advice?? I don't want to melt anything else or cause my car to catch on fire. I'm just trying to get the AC working again. Fire wouldn't be getting things any cooler.

The dark green with white wire is the A/C request signal. It connects to pin 17 of the red connector at the PCM. There are six dark green with white wires in that connector - positions 9, 17, 29, 34, 43, and 50. The positions are numbered left to right, bottom row first (1-40) then top row (41-80) when you're looking at the connector pins with the connector locking tab at the top. So pin 17 is the fourth to the left of the center screw on the bottom row. (Or if you're looking at the wires while it's still plugged in to the PCM then it's the fourth wire to the right of the center screw in the row opposite the connector's locking tab.) It has a blank spot next to it on one side and a dark green wire (no stripe) next to it on the other side.
