speaker ohm ??? how can i know what the ohms on my speaker is??? is there any certain way that i should wire it. i have a memphis speaker, its not the mojo is the one before it i really dont know the name of it. can anyone help

You can measure it with a multimeter using the Ohmeter setting. It passes a small ammount of voltage through a component then reads what it receives and will give you the approx Impedance of the speaker.

That will give you an approximation but it won't be accurate. For example, most 4-ohm speakers will read 3.x ohms on a meter. This is because impedance is a measure of resistance in an alternating current circuit and meters are designed to read resistance in direct current applications. Also, the impedance rating of a speaker is the "nominal" impedance because it varies over the range of frequencies a speaker is designed to handle - meters aren't designed to handle that.

Correct which is why I said approx, but if you have no model numbers or impedence stamps on the speaker it is the easiest, and cheapest way to find out. There are other more expensive ways but if you are in a pinch it is a huge help.

Sorry, haven't finished first cup of coffe so my articulation might not be what it should be. I wasn't trying to argue it, I was just wanting to make sure people don't write it off as a way to go when no other path is available like model numbers or stamped impedences. The Multimeter is a powerful tool in any installer's tool box and it is helpful to learn everything it has to offer you.
