Possible for Bazooka Subs to be blown?
So, I ordered another amp, a Boston Acoustics GTA-800m. It's overkill for the Bazookas (bought amp for future plans) but I had it in a 4 Ohm load configuration and the gain on the lowest setting. The first night I had it hooked up, it wasn't working. At low volumes, everything was fine, but you could hardly hear the subs working at all. If I turned up the volume, the subs would get exponentially louder and the amp would pop into protection mode. I was baffled as the new amp wasn't working with the speakers either.
The next day I pulled out the subs and put my voltmeter across the connections. I think I got around 3-3.5 Ohms on one VC and in series I got around 6.5 Ohms. I forgot to test the other VC by itself. I put them back in and the amp/subs worked great. They were clear at low volumes and when I turned it up, no distortion and good solid bass. The next two days, it was back to popping into protection mode. So I went ahead and ordered a Polk Audio SR104DVC sub and made my own enclosure. Everything has been working flawlessly with the new setup. Amp ins't popping into protection, sub sounds great, etc.
POE leaves the Bazooka subs or the factory wiring at fault. Is there a good way to test them? Are the results of the Ohm-meter in line with what they should be (4 Ohm DVC)? If one or both of them were blown, would they still show resistance across the terminals? TIA
