Default Switching subs? (12"-10")

I'm starting to wonder if I need my dual 12's anymore. (Kappa perfects) I would like a little more definition, but I don't want to sacrifice the low end frequency reproduction. Mine will shake my side views pretty well when I have it turned up. I've gotten to EQ dialed in pretty good and when everything is cooperating, everything is almost deafening but precise.

I mainly listen to metal, rock and some club/techno every once in a great while.

I'm wondering if a set of L5 or L7 10"s would still give me the low end.. But I don't want a "sloppy" speaker. I'm looking for sound quality and not really into slam anymore.

Kappa 10"s?? My stereo has been quite moody lately. I drive the car ~1-2x a week, and when I get in it on saturday it just seems really quiet, almost like the mid amp turned itself down or the loudness on the HU turned itself down..

No idea WTF is going on.

A set of L7 10s would def still give you some low-end.

I'd like to do the dual 10" boxes and a nice amp rack on the back wall. I have a decent dual amp setup now, but it's hidden under the darn box. Even though the t-top box has always been an attention getter and conversation piece at shows. It would bug me a little to get rid of it, but I'd also be dropping some serious weight without it.

Kappa perfect 12's I have are a 98db sensitivity.... Maybe 400WRMS/Ch is all I am looking for. ~1000Wpeak.. The Kappas are around 200-500WRMS. Perfect hooked to a 500x2 amp.

I'm just gonna list some stuff...

If your talking about wanting definition then you really do not want a Kicker sub. They are very loud with the right powerand make bass but it is sloppy. The L7 and L5 make decent numbers for SPL and I have used them specifically for that on a budget for a customer but I wouldn't use them for SQ or SQL type application and definitely not for definition.
You can use a single 10" sub and make big bass along with definition and clarity. You just have to use the right sub. There are several very good ones out there. I regularly use CDT, RE Audio, Massive Audio, JBL, and several others for big bass from a small sub. These are very tight sounding subs that make huge bass but can do it in a way that is controlled sounding and defined.
These are my favorite right now:

These are an outstanding sub for the money and make big bass with good definition.
The CDT HD-1000CF is another outstanding sub I use alot but it is geared more toward sound quality and less on output. It still hits hard, just more focused.

^ Very cool! I was hoping you would chime in here. I haven't been in this room in a while, so your name/site was new to me but saw you in another thread.

I'm sure I gave enough info in my above response to give you a good idea of what I'm looking for.

Could you recomend me a decent 4 ch amp for my components? I've always had my eye on kicker 50.4, but No reason to. I just liked the fan-cooled and crossover adjustments.

And I take it a sealed box would still be the way to go to keep everything tight? Do you use any kind of sealant tape under the sub to aid this?
