New Battery Suggestions ?
New Battery Suggestions ? Anyone have any suggestions for a good battery for a high current draw application? All the police equipment in our car is killing the factory battery.
I have looked at the Red tops, the Yellow tops, and Pro Comp is now putting out some gel types intended for 4x4 apps that are supposed to be good.
I figure all of you with high draw stereo systems would have the best input on this topic.

Mad..Nope, this one isn't a police pkg. It's a regular Z....even has T-Tops...lol Can't wait till it's warmer so I can let the dog hang his head out the top while we cruise the Interstate 
I'm looking for an alternator (I've looked on eBay) but I've heard so many horror stories of burnt wires, etc. that I'm waiting to get a prop from someone who has used a specific kind. So, any recommendations??

Try one of our sponsors Afterthoughts Auto. They sell a really nice one. Should have no trouble with that and a yellow top battery to keep your lights and sirens from killing your car.
I second the yellow top, oriely's auto, $145. The best thing about these batteries; If you leave the lights on and completely drain the battery, leave it dead for a couple of months, then charge it up. It will be as good as new. Now that's a battery!
Ditto on the yellow top. Make specifically for your purpose. I just put one in the SS a few weeks ago. I had heard modifications were needed to be done to the stock battery bracket, but mine fit like a glove w/o any modificatons.

It was a yellow top 34/78. If you go with a red top, it will be a different model #. Also, there is NOT a yellow top made for our cars. This was the only model they had at Sears, and it just happened to fit good. However, they do make a specific model to fit our cars if you decide to go with a red top.

Sounds like from everyone that the yellow is the way to go. I appreciate everyone's input.
Our battery was good until the dealership had the car (actually 2 different dealers) for a week and a half...neither cold find out why our gas gauge is not working
I picked the car up on Friday and the car was surging at idle and in drive when they brought it into the service drive.
Tech told me the battery was low and needed a charge, and that the PCM needed to relearn the settings. Well.....drove it all weekend and ya can't turn it off. If you do, you have to boost it to get it going.
Alternator is charging like crazy, but battery is flat.
I think I'm gonna try and have the dealer replace it...they messed it up!

Yup, time for a new battery. Mine was the same way. Would jump it, let it run for 30-45 minutes, and if you turned it off, you had to jump it again. Yellow Top took care of that.

Upgrade the battery to alt wire and you should have no problems with burnt wiring. Sweet,
That's what I mean about wwanting input from ya'll. I've heard that from some guys that bought the ebay alts.
Right now I am still waiting for the delaership to find out whay my gas gauge isn't working. It's at the 3rd dealership in as many weeks....maybe this will be the lucky week we get it fixed....yeah...right....
