Maximum safe distance of fuse from battery

Maximum safe distance of fuse from battery I've read 6" and maybe even 8" for the best distance of the an amp fuse from the battery. Without having to mount mine directly on the battery, the next best and far better looking place to mount it is roughly 9-11"s away.
Is this too far?

There is no "maximum." It's just that the further you get from the battery, the higher the chance that the wire between the battery and the fuse could get clipped by the hood or some tool that a mechanic is using on the car or melted on something or whatever. Electrically, with things working correctly, there is no difference whatsoever.
Not that I'm recommending the fuse be placed far from the battery - I am not - but to discuss a "maximum" is... just wrong.
