Rewiring battery terminal cables

When it comes to electronics, I am at a loss. I do know that I absolutely hate the side terminal batteries where the terminals get screwed into. My terminals got stripped and that isn't covered in the battery warranty. Any tips before I begin to try rewiring my cables to be applicable for the top "clamp" style batteries? That will be the style of battery I buy next.

I used butt connectors to extend my wires in order to use the top posts on my Optima, real easy.

You need some 6 gauge wire, 6 gauge butt connectors and 6 gauge ring connectors.

If you don't have a car audio system, I suppose you can use butt connectors if you want. I do at least recommend either the kind that make a watertight seal with a heat gun, or shrink wrapping them with ADHESIVE shrink wrap.

If you've got a system then replace the wire completely with 4 gauge or 2 gauge or, if you have a crazy system, 0 gauge.

You could also just replace the screws in the battery cables. They pull out with vise grips. Replacements are a couple bucks.

The terminals on the BATTERY were damaged, not the battery bolts.

I ended up buying the top post style battery and cutting off the ends of the existing wires. Redid the ends to connect to the clamp style connections. Problem solved. Thanks for the input!
