Odd stereo issues

Odd stereo issues The sub in my system has not been coming on with the rest of the stereo. I have to turn the volume up to 15 (max is 35) before it kicks in. So I took a look at the amp, and noticed one of the speaker connectors had some rust/gunk around it. I pulled it out, cleaned it off with some sand paper, and cleaned off the piece of metal that holds the connector/wire in place. Re-connected and turned it on. Still had same issue, but now the front speakers don't work at all. WTF?
The front speakers are on a separate amp, and the remote lead for the sub amp runs off the first one. Both have power lights on, everything looks good otherwise.
Any suggestions?
All components are Alpine, if that matters. I'd have to dig for specific model numbers.
