Default Making a circuit for accessories.

Hey i'm hoping this is thread is in the right forum.

But i was just wondering if someone could explain to me how to run a new circuit for my oil scavage pump. I want the pump to run whenever the car has power. but i did not want to run its own sperate switch for fear that i would forget to turn the switch on. So i'm wanting someone to explain to me how i can do this or if i'm on the right track.

I have an idea of running a power cable from the battery to a relay. Then take a lead from another power wire that is hot whenever the key is turned on. That way when the key is turned on the power from the car being turned on will close the relay allowing power from the battery to pass through the relay to the scavage pump to activate the pump work. Of course the pump and relay would have to be grounded also.

Is this all correct? Help please

Yes that is correct. You can get an ignition switched circuit at the fuse panel. There are three extra ports in the fuse panel that GM intended for installation of aftermarket accessories. They are single pole connections (like half a fuse) and are labeled IGN, BATT, and ACCY. BATT is constant power, IGN is ignition switched power, and ACCY is retained accessory power (live after the ignition is switched off until a door is opened - like the radio).
