Default audio-related question.

the driver door speaker in my 99 z28 was completely blown (still plays sound, but rattles like hell). This weekend, I decided to tackle the project and replace the speaker with an aftermarket one that should be a bit more robust.

I noticed that the oem door speaker has 4 pin harness (power and ground for the tweeter and power and ground for the midrange), whereas the aftermarket 2-way speaker only has 1 pair of power and ground.

I have bridged the wires, i have tried the tweeter and midrange separately, and no sound is produced. Anyone have any suggestions? I would rather not replace it with another cheap crappy paper stock speaker. Thanks,

Leave the tweeter wires disconnected if you're using a coax unless you can modify it so that the tweeter is wired separately. Or buy a component speaker lol

leave the tweeters wired as they came from the box on your speakers then and just leave the tweeter wires alone and only connect the 2 other wires to your speaker

sorry, Im not following you. The harness from the car has a plug that terminates on the speaker bracket (this is a 4-pin male connector). It mates with a 4-pin female connector that is on the speaker (power and ground to tweeter, and power and ground to mid range). I have cut off the harness plug (the female connector) so I can connect the 4 wires to the aftermarket speakers with the single pair of power/ground. Are you saying to cut the male 4-pin connector from the body harness? Thanks for the help and sorry for the confusion.

just connect the power and ground for the midrange to the 2 wires on your new coaxial speakers and leave the power and ground for the tweeters disconnected
