Remote mount double-din screen?

Remote mount double-din screen? I'd like to mount a touch screen double din unit in a vehicle, but the area behind the dash does not have the room for the whole double-din head unit (depth). My thought was to remove the screen off the head unit, mount the screen in the dash, and remote mount the head unit in the trunk.
Is this possible? I know people put computers in their trunks and mount touch screen screens in the dash. Can a head-unit screen be wired to do the same thing?

Thanks, I have mounted double dins in F-bodies before.
My issue is with my wife's 325i. Fitting a double-din in her car would require hacking up the AC ducting (something I don't want to do). So I need to be able to remote mount the head unit (in the trunk) and mount the screen in the dash. I thought about a carputer but the interface on those just isn't there (would tick my wife off).
First suggestion is try to find a shallower mounting Double DIN, there is a reason they state the physical sizes of the units, this is it.
What may make this possible to do is if you get the removeable face double din like this one http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...rs/AVH-P8400BH and then create a "harness" to connect each lead of the connector on the back of the face to connect to the plug on the unit that the connector plugs into. A lot of work but should in theory work, personally I would just find one that fits to start with.

To this point, nobody has ever found anything that will fit without hacking up the vents (they are almost smack behind the dash face). There is a "factory replacement" unit but its a POS (it has very limited functionality and people say sound quality is little better than stock).
You idea about the removable face seems like an "option" but yeah, a lot of work (don't know where I'd find a plug).

The head unit sends out high (speaker) level signals. If no-amp, direct to speakers. If there is an amp, it takes the high level signals in, boosts them (along with noise), and sends the boosted signals to the speakers.
My wife's car has the amp, so the idea is to ditch the factory head unit and amp, and run RCAs to a small 4 channel in the trunk.
Two options: no-amp (base models) and amp (upgrade)

I'm not sure how user friendly this would be for your wife but it works pretty well for me.
I have a set of components and coxial speakers that run off rockford fosgate Punch PBR300X4 - 4 channel amp.
The tablet connects to amp itself using 3.5mm jack to rca inputs.
