Alternator Problem
I need to upgrade the rectifier and voltage regulator.
powder coat could be blocking the ground that certain bolts that ground to the alt case from the rectifier/regulator.
brushes not properly seated.
Alternators are fairly straight forward devices, rip it apart and reassemble it again, see if there is a video on youtube of one being assembled that you could use as a guide to see if you are putting a screw (or insulated screw) in the wrong spot.

I will check the brushes.
They are straight forward that's why I was surprised it didn't work. Thanks for the idea's. I'll go through it again.
but there was some white grease on those surfaces. Any idea what that might be?
