Third Brake Light Explosion

So i was driving tonight and all of a sudden I smell burning plastic on the inside and then it went away. once I got to my house and got out of the car it started smelling like burning plastic again, then i saw my spoiler smoking and looked at the third brake light and it looks like one of the LEDs exploded, melting a hole through it.

So my question what could've caused this to happen in the first place, has this happen to anyone else before and is anyone selling a new third brake light for an SS spoiler

Moving to electrical as this is an LED problem.

Please fix the title so this doesn't sound like a brake problem.

To OP: Hawk's Third Gen sells new SS 3rd brake lights. I had to replace mine that didnt work. I think I paid about $55-60

I just replaced mine and got it form their ebay store.
