Wipers will not turn off
It was raining last night so I had my wipers on. Get in to go to work this morning and they won't friggin turn off. I can adjust the speed but if I try to turn them off it just stays in the slowest speed, they won't retract and turn off. Thank God I could drive my dad's truck to work, I wouldn't want to drive 40 miles round trip with the wipers going on a dry day.
I played around with the switch for awhile and now it's making a funny noise once the wipers get to the bottom position, which makes me think it's the motor. Or could it be the switch or whatever is inside on the column? Either way I'm really pissed because both sound difficult to work on and I was just getting ready to get rid of this vehicle.
Is there a fuse I can pull to cut power to them without cutting power to anything important? So I can drive it for now.
Fixing it though....no matter where the problem is it sounds a pain to do, which probably means I won't do it myself, which means expensive. Sell/trade as is?
This switch is a PITA to replace. (I don't recall the switch being cheap either.) The plastic is probably old and brittle, so if you replace it, make sure you are going to do the job all in one sitting. Removing the turn signal stalk, will probably destroy the switch completely.
Here is a thread I wrote when replacing mine: https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...mn-repair.html
