2002 TA oil gauge problem
The engine was removed and replaced for motor work. Nothing done to the interior or instrument panel. The ECU was removed so it could be flashed with a starting tune for the motor work.
The mechanic said he saw the oil gauge reading and tested the sender. He said it was normal. He said he thought the gauge was broken to begin with and that was the reason for the auxiliary gauge.
Where does the wiring go from the sender as I'd like to look for the short if it can be readily fixed. Does it go to the ECU or the instrument panel or .......? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Steve
Here is your diagnostic procedure:
- Unplug the oil pressure sensor and connect a jumper wire between the connector and a good ground. Turn on the ignition. If the gauge now reads low pressure, check that the connector is making good contact with the sending unit (if not, fix it and test again). If the connector is making good contact then the sender is faulty and must be replaced.
- If the gauge does not read low when the wire is grounded, look for a broken wire or bad connection between the sensor and the instrument cluster (tan wire in position B14 of the IP connector) by doing a continuity test with a multimeter. Repair any problem found with the wire and retest.
- If the connector, the sending unit, and the wire all check out then the gauge itself is defective.

I suppose I can go through your test procedure this coming w'end.
Thanks again. Very informative.
