DIY Viper Remote Start
Got a viper remote start for christmas and the necessary bypass module (XK09). The warranty only applies if I have a dealer install it. I'd rather just do it myself because Best Buy near me blows. Anyone have any recommendations for or against it or has anyone ever needed to make a warranty claim? I'm pretty confident that I could do it myself.

I hate bestbuy, they had one of my cars for 3 days and couldn't figure out how to get the remote start to work. With that said Viper will only cover the warranty if someone who is a direct supplier installs the systems.
I installed one in my 2007 blazer and havn't had any issues so its up to you.

Another thing to consider is that in case the unit you have turns out to be a dud, to get a new one for free, do you need to return it to viper or best buy?
If its directly to viper, they may ask best buy to file the claim for you.
If its only to best buy, then give it a shot.

Since you're from ATL, you'd think you could find a decent stereo shop, and not just be stuck on Best Buy.
Where was the system bought from? If it wasn't bought AND installed at a dealer, there's no warranty.
I've installed these and have been a DEI dealer since 1998. I recommend you find a professional that's done these for a living. That way it's done and you're not stuck when you do something wrong.
