Thieves busted my steering column to hell Damn thieves tried to steal my car the other night and they destroyed my steering column. I found another steering column with the key but I'm not sure if the new key will work with my original BCM, do I need to get a brand new BCM to program the new key to or will mine work? Thanks for any help!

GM vats keys all have a resistance value. If memory serves me right there are 10 different values. Given the small number of assigned values, you may luck out and have the key in the new column match the resistance value of the original key. If not the solution is simple if you want to keep vats functioning. With a multimeter measure the resistance across the pellet in your old key, you can take that value and google what number key it is, it goes 1-10. Take the new key to a locksmith and have it re-cut with the new resistance value. If you dont have a meter or just dont want to mess with it, take the old key and the new key and they can get the value of the old key for you.
So I should be able to get it to work one way or another, thanks a lot fellas. I'll test it like you said and see what I come up with, if I have any trouble I'll be back on here. Thanks again!
