Default Problem with my key

So I just got a 2000 Camaro ss and my keyless entry works unlocks and locks but the key with the chip (the one I use to start the car) doesn't go in the key cylinder on any of the doors? But the key for the trunk and t-tops unlocks all the doors but the alarm goes off? Is it suppose to be like that? I used to have a 2002 z28 but I never tied unlocking it manually so I'm not sure if all camaro's are like that or my key cylinders have been changed to only work for the trunk and t-tops? Anyone can tell me if there's is like that or you can unlock it manually with the ignition key.

Default key

Your ignition key {one with the chip} only works the ignition switch.
The other key opens and locks the door, rear hatch and t-tops.

Is that how it suppose to be? And how can I make the alarm not go off when I unlock it with the key?

The alarm can't tell the difference between using the key and a lock-pick to open the door. Most cars with normal keys are like this. Only newer cars/alarms with keys with a chip in them get around that.

This is what the key fob is for. Did you get the car without the key fobs? You can get new ones and program them in to the car.

Yea. That's all intentional for the reasons VIP1 points out. If someone opens the door, the car needs something to identify you as a friend. (If not friend = set off alarm.)

The only ways we can let the security system know that we have authorized access is to put the proper key in the ignition (and turn it) or to unlock the doors with the key fob.

BTW - You can get replacement fob cases at any auto parts store in the HELP! section. You just pop the circuit board in the new case and you are good to go.
