Default ? for those of you with Double Dins

I really like the idea of having a modern looking stereo in the my car, instead of a single din unit that sticks out of the dash 1" and has limited functions. The only thing I'm concerned about with these set ups is the brightness of the screen during night driving. On my Suburban, driving in the dark with the stock touchscreen on is almost blinding.

Would anyone mind posting pictures of their units at night?

The good aftermarket double-DIN units (brand names like Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine, etc.) have separate display brightness settings for lights-on versus lights-off. If you still can't get the display dark enough, it helps to be able to change the background to something like plain black so that it doesn't light up the interior as much. Same as your cell phone - if you have a light color background you can use the thing for a flashlight but if you use a dark background it's nowhere near as bright overall.

I just installed a Pioneer AVH-4100NEX in my '00 Z28 and I have no problem with brightness. Many will have the wiring to hook up to dim the unit when the headlights turn on. On the model I got, if that is still too bright I can just shut off the display.

My pioneer HU has plenty of adjustments for brightness, contrast, dimmer and let you have separate day and night settings. At night mine is not blinding or distracting at all.

Pics arent great but heres a few. I didnt even think I had night pics.

I never had a brightness issue on my old Avic D3, from what I remember on top of the night mode for the GPS it also had a separate brightness control for day and night.

Some screens have night/day in the settings. My daily and my mom's lexus came with the setting set to ignore headlights.... made night driving dangerous IMO. Set both cars to acknowledge headlights on/off and now they go negative (whites are now black) for better night vision.

The JVC's I typically use allow a few methods...you can manually force the bright/dim setting, you can have it trigger automatically via the parking light wire, or you can set a timer so it dims during certain hours.
