ipad original... what to do
Now on the point. I've got the original ipad and it is basically a high-tech paper weight, so I'm ready and able to jailbreak it for this project. Can this ancient thing be used as my HU instead of putting a full radio back in my car? Mounting is not an issue because race car. If it could hook up to display vehicle diagnostics as well that would be a HUGE plus. Really limited on the software side due to app compatibility.
Only speakers left in the car are door speakers and 1 sub in the trunk with its a dedicated amp.
Unfortunately for the radio project, didn't find anything compatible with iOS 5.1 where the ipad1 stopped getting updates. New apps and interfaces are available that can replace the radio with a newer ipad or droid tablet. It will be cheaper and easier to install a spare HU for radio and use the ipad1 for supplemental gauges and performance meters.
No more high-tech paperweight!
Bought a 5 channel amp, ran 4 speakers and a small sub off it.
Connected a Bluetooth audio transmitter to the amp, the transmitter permanently sits in my trunk.
Wired a spare fog light switch to the amp's remote wire.
Pair my iPhone 6+ to the Bluetooth transmitter anytime I'm in the car.
Sound quality also depends on the amp and speakers ofcourse, I'm not sure how close it will get to the stereos in the other cars listed in your sig.
