Default possible to eliminate amp on monsoon system?

I have a 2000 SS with monsoon system. It is a 90% drag car but I left only the 2 rear speakers in the hatch, the amp and the stock head unit so I can listen to the radio when I street drive it. Is there any way possible to eliminate that amp that is on the passenger side wheel well area and still have my 2 rear speakers work? I'm in the process of cutting more weight out of the car but don't want to lose my radio yet. If anyone has a way to bypass it I will throw that amp in the garbage lol.

Amazing what a quick search for "bypass Monsoon" will turn up: https://ls1tech.com/forums/stereo-el...ss-wiring.html

Normally, bypassing the amp because of the mistaken belief that it causes audio quality problems is not a good idea. But for the purpose of weight reduction it makes sense.

Not trying to be a wise guy, but that Monsoon amp does not weigh that much. The spare tire weighs more than it. You would be better off losing a few pounds, wearing lighter shoes, or not wearing a leather jacket.

The car is down to the bare bones already. There is no weight to lose except trimming the seat belt brackets off the wheel wells, the AMP, and cutting the rear seat brackets off the floor. I'm going to try and eliminate some wiring also. but in the end I will only get 25lbs out total I'm sure. I didn't get the car under 3,200lbs with still having a radio, leather seats and appearing stock by skipping items because they only weighed 3lbs. Everything that isn't needed must go. That's how the car got so light. You would never know by looking at it but there is 500lbs removed from the day I bought the car at the dealership.

For a pure or almost pure drag car that makes sense. I must have read right past where you said "90% drag car".

I have a spare Monsoon amp and I have swapped them out to test them. The Monsoon amp is a lightweight compared to some of these aftermarket amps.

I do not now how loud the stock radio can get without the amp. I just replaced my stock radio with something modern because the original radio became very distorted as it got older.
