Default CDT Speakers

I have already upgraded the sail panels with CDT HD-6MSUB's from Kee. They sound great. But now when I crank the volume up the stock door/hatch speakers distort and sound like crap. So I want to upgrade the door and hatch speakers, and was looking at the CDT CL-61CV.2 and CDT CL-4EX.

Quick questions I hope someone can answer:
1) These are direct-fit replacements, correct?
2) Will I lose any volume over stock speakers? (I plan to keep the monsoon amp)
3) Can I retain and use the factory tweeters in the hatch along with the CL-4EX?
4) Are these speakers any good or can I get something better for the same-ish money?

I'd even take yes/no answers. I just can't find much on them either here or elsewhere. Don't want to spend $300 on some speakers that I'm just like meh about, you know?

1. Yes, basically. They aren't plug-and-play - you'll have to cut off the connectors from the OEM speakers and connect them to the replacements.
2. No.
3. You can but why would you want to? The hatch speakers are intended for rear fill not as a primary sound source and leaving the tweeters would create a lot of high frequency sound coming from behind you.
4. In my experience, yes. There are always other options available but Ian has spent a lot of time matching his packages to the characteristics of the Monsoon system.

Bear in mind that your opinion will be meh if you replace the speakers but keep the factory head unit - no matter what brand of speaker you use.

Thank you! You were actually exactly the guy I was hoping to hear from (barring Ian himself). I replaced the stock HU the week I bought the car.

I wouldn't cut the factory plug off the speaker harness. It's a lot easier to just buy the metra harness (seriously it's 6 freakin' dollars) and makes your speaker plug and play at that point. Plus you don't have to worry about getting the positive and negative wrong.

That's true for most vehicles but Metra doesn't make an adapter for the 4-pin connector needed to fit the door components used on Camaro Monsoon systems or the sail panel subs on either model. So reusing the factory connectors is really the only option except for Firebird doors or the hatch speakers in either model.

Good to know, thanks! I have a Trans Am w/ monsoon, so I'll go ahead and get the harnesses for the doors and hatch. (I already upgraded the sails, so I'm ok there)
I know how to wire stuff up, but this negates the worry for $6.
