Default Headunit on in accessory?

So I've had my kenwood deck in for a couple weeks. Yesterday i hard wired my radar detector into the headunit, and noticed that it does not come on when the key is in accessory? Only when in the "run" position.
Now I have a service manual in which I looked it up, and it stated that this should be live in accessory also?
I don't really remember if my radio had came on in acc before wiring in the radar, however I never remember having any issues in which it bothered me until now. I'd like to have it on in acc.
Acc fuse is good?
Are these headunits not designed to come on in acc or is my key ignition messed up

It sounds like you did not wire it correctly. My X998 comes on when I rotate the key back in "accessory".

The yellow wire in the factory harness (the red wire in an aftermarket wiring harness adapter) is Retained Accessory Power (RAP) controlled. It is live in the run and accessory positions as well as after the ignition is shut off until a door is opened. If that is where you connected and it's not working then the BCM is the likely source of the problem.

However, having had radar detectors for many years, I'm not sure why you would want it to work in the accessory position. Quite the opposite... I've found that to be very annoying when I'm sitting in the car listening to music in a parking lot with a store using an automatic door opener (radar based). You shouldn't need a radar detector except when the car is moving which implies the ignition is in the run position.

Man thanks for the reply. I have read so any useful posts by you over the past couples weeks here.
I bought the aftermarket harness and used the red wire, so unless the harness connects wrong then I think I did it correctly.
However I'll have to pull it out to be sure, I just needed a place to feed power to the radar. And I knew that the radio would work.

It wasn't until I did this that I noticed I have no accessory.... I believe I have never, I've had the deck in for a couple weeks now and I just now noticed this. I think I'd just been going all the way to run before to get it to come on.

I would just like it to work correctly. I'm beginning to think my ignition is the culprit. It's awfully loose, however it does roll into a spot where I assume accessory would be. I need to take a look at my wiring when I have a chance

It should be easier to get my bezel off, only three clips left

Are you turning the key forward or backward for accy? You only get accy by turning backward. Forward the first "click" does nothing. Same way in my z

thanks man helped me out. I was going to the first click.
So I guess acc can't be stayed in, you have to have the key rolled back, like while you rolled up a window or something.

this clears up some confusion man I appreciate it
