Alternator noise My alternator sounds like a procharger lol. My old one was making this exact same noise, replaced it because of light flickering issues, new one makes same exact sound. I thought it was PS pump but I just replaced that and its not that. Also not water pump, replaced that as well last year... I made a vid of it, if I unplug the exciter wire the sound mostly goes away. It also seems to drag the engine down pretty hard when I plug it in, idk if that's normal... Nothing is on except the engine. I did the sanding of the ground wire locations last year right before alternator, didn't change anything.
Anyone else deal with this?

Having the same issue right now on my 2001 camaro. Starting hearing this "whine" and the car died on me while driving about a week later. Had a new alternator and battery installed and still hearing the same whine you show in your video. Whine gets louder as RPMs go up.

Nope, have not tried to fix it yet. It works OK besides the noise so it hasn't been on my need-to-fix list yet. It is very annoying tho because its the loudest part of the car now.
Partially the reason I haven't replaced it yet is because everyone seems to have problems with re-manufactured or "new" alternators for this car and I don't have time to just keep replacing alternators. I may try to rebuild it myself with better quality electronics if possible.
The voltage still dips randomly at idle with nothing but the engine running.
Mine was a "new" one also, made noise since day one.

I am having the same issue. I replaced the alternator with a new one from Autozone 3 years ago. I noticed it had a high pitch whine but was not too bad. I just installed a new one (AC Delco) after the existing one failed. The noise is much louder now. I also noticed that the volt meter in the cluster shows a higher reading now, just over 14 v, whereas the old one was more like 13v.
Has anyone ever managed to resolve this? My '00 SS sounds exactly like this, with a brand new alternator (made the noise with the old one, too) and it drives me nuts. I've noticed other F-body's do this too, surely someone out there has figured out a fix!
