Kee Audio question
Kee Audio question Okay so i have a 02 Formula that i did the level 5 package from kee, install was a breeze, however i have to admit I am a little disappointed at the sound quality, the speakers look to be quality pieces and I had very high expectations of the product, but after a couple months I am still not impressed. I have a pioneer double din head unit, so my question is could it the aftermarket head unit causing the problems? or maybe the stock monsoon amp just doesn't push enough power to really make the speakers perform? I guess its better than stock but i really can't tell, the speakers where blown when I rescued this car 2 years ago, and it's been 14 years since my last f-body that did have good stock speakers so i really don't have a fair comparison, I just know that i enjoy my stock bose system in my Denali HD better than the CDT product thus far.
I just picked up a stealth box and I will be adding a JL 10w V3 and JL amp this weekend so I will see if that helps. Next idea is to purchase a nice amp and power all the CDT product and see if that might help.

I don't think I knew there was a level 5 lol. I had to go look. I put a level 4 kit in my car last summer. I'm using a Joying android head unit and the stock amp.
I like it, but I'm no stereo guru. I am curious what a better amp would do. I'll probably upgrade later.
I've never had a Bose system, but I've got a 00 Silverado. I've always been impressed with the stock speakers in that truck. I don't know why the fbodies got such crappy speakers when the trucks the same years got better ones.

What exactly is it you don't like about the way they sound?
The main limiting factor is that you can't really tune the system with the factory amp. The level 5 speakers are rated for 170 watts RMS. The monsoon amp puts out about 45 watts RMS, so one issue is that the speakers aren't working to their full potential. Another issue is that the factory crossovers built into the amp are set differently than the frequencies that the CDT speakers want.
IMO, the 170 RMS rating of the CDT speakers is BS. My guess is that the speakers want something closer to 75-90 watts RMS. My recommendation to increase the sound quality is invest in a good 4 channel amp. Something like the kicker KX400.1 or an Alpine MRV-F300. This will give you a selectable crossover and the ability to match gains from the deck to the amp.
