Default How are the sail panel subwoofers controlled?

How are the sail panel subwoofers controlled by the head unit? What i mean is are they wired with the front channels or the rear? I ask since the head unit has a built in crossover and taking bass out of the rear hatch speakers seems to kill the bass to the subs.. I tried crossing over the fronts and that too seems to cut off the subs.

The sail panel subs aren't directly controlled by the head unit. The HU feeds four channels of full-range signal to the Monsoon amp which splits and filters that into eight channels of output to speakers. In a Camaro, that's all eight speakers. In a Firebird, that's all the speakers except front and rear tweeters (the subs take two channels each because they are DVC).

If you are retaining the Monsoon amp then no crossovers are necessary. If you are replacing the Monsoon amp with an aftermarket one then you should rewire the subs to use the sub (low pass filtered) output of your aftermarket amp. If you're trying to bypass the Monsoon amp to run just off the head unit... why would you do that?

Ok , i left some info out. I have a double din radio that has an adjustable xover built in. I was trying to see what channel that the sail pannels tap into. Are they split off the front channels or the back channels? Im trying to raise the crossover point of the rear hatch speakers but that seems to cut the sail panels, seems to be the same effect if i cross over the front speakers.

There is no real documentation on the inner workings of the Monsoon amp but I suspect that it gets bass signal for the sail panels from both front and rear inputs based on the way the HU fader control doesn't affect them. Besides, the hatch area speakers consist of a small mid and a tweeter with the mid being fed by the amp while the tweeter gets signal directly from the head unit through an inline high pass filter. So the best you could do with a built-in crossover would be a signal frequency filter - you can't really change the crossover frequency from the head unit since you're not directly controlling the separate feeds.

I was thinking of using the in-line filter that came with the cdt component set ( the 4" cdt components). I went with the highest package he had at the time.

The CDT CL-40 4" component set doesn't come with a high pass filter as such but with a crossover. Of course, you could use the crossover as a simple filter by only connecting one half but you really wouldn't gain anything over leaving the existing filter in place unless it's not working. It's the same situation with the doors... the CDT component speakers come with a nice crossover but it ends up not being used because the components are already on separate channels rather than being a single channel that needs to be split between mid and tweeter.
