Factory Monsoon Amp Issues...Maybe? Ok, I do have a aftermarket head unit in the car. I can start the car up and have sound, Turn the volume up and it sounds great, intermittently the sound will just cut out if the volume is up (even if I don't touch the volume again) and it does seem to do it less often if I have the volume at a lower setting and when the outside temps are cooler. I've tried to track down a pattern but there's no rhyme or reason when it does it. Power windows still work right when it happens so its not the BCM that I can tell. The only way to get sound back is to either turn the car off and on or power cycle the head unit or just leave it alone for about five min at which time the sound will come back. All of the above leads me to think the factory amp may be overheating. I did some searching last night, but I couldn't find any posts that more closely matched the issue I am having. I my have actually posted something similar a few years ago but couldn't find anything under my own user name. I've had a lot going on in the last 3 years so I'm just now getting around to finally tracking down all the small bugs my car has and I was just wondering if anyone else is also having the same issue. I really would prefer to not have to bypass the factory amp with an aftermarket one.

Is there any reason you would assume the Monsoon amp rather than the head unit? You don't indicate the vehicle model... if it's a Camaro, the amp might be suspect because it powers all speakers. But if it's a Firebird, a faulty amp would still leave the front and rear tweeters working so no sound would indicate a head unit problem.

I've had the head unit in my avalanche as a test because I'm concidering buying another one for that vehicle. It's a joying touch screen. I forget the model number, one thing that is very suspect upon further inspection after making this post I found someone had replaced the factory speakers with aftermarket ones. I've had the car since 2008 (1997 Comp T/A) I'm thinking about just replacing all of them anyways. I'll try to dig up some more info for you
