It depends on what you need from the scanner. If you're just checking codes and monitoring sensors you can get a generic plug in from Amazon for $20 and a free app on your phone. If you want to check abs codes and adjust small things it gets more complicated and expensive with actual handheld units. If you want to play with lots of stuff you'll end up with a programming suite like hptuners on a laptop.

If your looking for a basic code reader that you can read and erase diagnostic codes we would recommend the Performance Tool WMR-W2977.If your looking for a scan tool that can read and erase diagnostic and ABS codes as well as view live real-time data among many other options and features we would recommend the Actron Elite ANM-CP9690. For a middle of the road scan tool that can view and erase diagnostic and ABS codes we would recommend the Innova INO-3040E.
