Default Delayed start 99 T/A

Hello everyone hows it going. I've got a little issue, well not really an issue, just something my car has been doing since I purchased it I was wondering about. Whenever I start my car for the first time of the day, when I turn the key over to start it, the starter doesn't engage right away. You have to hold it down for about 2 seconds before anything happens. Is this normal for this year and model? I'm using an Optima Yellow Top battery if that makes any difference or not. As far as extra load on the battery, I'm running 2 amps, a 150 watt and a 900 watt, and a Viper 5105v alarm with remote start. Also it only does the delayed start thing once a day and it doesn't matter what time of the day. Basically it does it when the car has been sitting for about 12 hours or more. Thanks in advance.

Hey everyone hows it going, well I "think" I may have a little more info on this situation. My scan tool got another update via android play store, so like a kid with a new toy, I immediately had to play with it! So I gave my 99 T/A another "good scannin" and low and behold, P1626 front and center! I really need to stop "scannin" my car so much! The scan tool I purchased is a blue driver OBD 2 scanner and whenever my car throws a code it describes what the code is, the possible causes for the code, and reported fixes for the code, and Amazon links to the parts to fix it. I'll post the screenshots, but I was looking at all the reported fixes and some of them kinda look familiar. In the first part of this thread I was talking about the ignition switch having a little delay before engaging, well the top reported fix on my scan tool says "Replace ignition lock cylinder" That falls in line with the issue that I started thread for, but wait there's more! On a prior thread that I started I was describing some issues I was having with my aftermarket remote start/alarm system to the forum, but Viper sent me to a local shop and I thought it was fixed. The morning before I scanned it, I used my remote start to warm it up and it never started up, I know it tried because the radio was on. As I scrolled down through all the reported fixes section, the very first listing in the, "other reported fixes" was "Removed Add-On Remote Start System". I don't know about you guys and gals, but I'm starting to see a pattern! Update to the update!! Just got back from smokin out the Sonic parking lot and apparently that's how you clear a P1626 code lol!!!! Looks like I dodged another bullet, for now. If anyone wants to chime in on this i'm all ears. Sorry about the long post, I tried to list as much info as I possibly could about this situation. I may not have enough "brain power" to fix these problems on my own, but thankfully I have just enough to start a thread on this site and get the much needed support from smart people who know these cars inside out which I am very great full for! Have a wonderful day and thanks in advance.

You should take a lot of these crowd sourced "fixes" with a grain of salt because many of them are from people who just throw parts at a problem and never really know what solved the problem. In addition, some of the suggestions don't don't apply to your car or couldn't possibly fix the problem on your car. For example, replacing the opti-spark distributor would be difficult since they weren't used on LS engines. And the anti-theft relay does nothing but flash the parking lights when the alarm is triggered... nothing to do with starting.

On the other hand, things you would not think could work might surprise you. The fuel enable signal from the BCM to the PCM is part of VATS which depends on seeing the correct resistance in the ignition key pellet so replacing the ignition key, as ridiculous as it might sound, can resolve starting issues when there's a VATS problem. Of course, in that case you would have the additional symptom of the SECURITY light in the dash being illuminated or flashing.

Hey Whitebird00, Thanks for replying. Yeah your right, some of those reported fixes, "replaced opti-spark distributor"!!! was pretty funny! And thanks to yourself and many others on this forum, I didn't end up at NAPA buying one!!!! Iv'e been getting weird codes like this one lately, but they'll pop up, I'll go for a quick ride, and then they go away! Hopefully they keep going away!! Thanks for info the factory alarm, I just automatically assumed it would have some kind of starter kill baked in from the factory. Well I guess I'll take this distributor back to Napa!!!! Thanks again.
