Does my car have the monsoon system?
So now I'm wondering why the car would have the rest of the equipment but a regular head unit? I've only had the car about a month and a half and bought it from a used car lot. All I can figure is the stock monsoon deck died and a previous owner or the dealership placed the regular deck in its place.
And my last question, what is the difference between the stock head unit and the monsoon head unit? This all kind of started because I haven't been content w/ the sound system since I've had the car. The speakers just can't handl any bass and sound horrible when I crank the system up. I'm wondering if any of this could be because of the improper head unit being there?
Thanks for any help.

You can tell whether it's a Monsoon system by the RPO (option) codes on the door sticker. Early models had UL0 for the 200 watt Monsoon cassette head unit and UN0 for the 200 watt Monsoon CD head unit. Later models used "Entertainment Package" codes such as W54 for the 500 watt Monsoon 10 speaker system with cassette and W55 for the 500 watt Monsoon 10 speaker system with CD. U59 was also used for the Monsoon system in convertibles.
Also, the speaker count is a little strange in the Chevrolet brochures. They count the coax woofer and tweeter in the door as two speakers so they say a coupe has eight speakers and a convertible has six. Now, in the Firebird the door woofer and tweeter are actually separate drivers as well as separate woofers and tweeters in the hatch area for a total of ten.
