Default Replacing Old 2-Din Question (TBSS)

My TBSS came with a Pioneer AVH-X2700BS but it started to crap and constantly freeze up so I’m in the market to upgrade it. My question is, since I already have a previous unit, do I need to buy any other parts/kits or am I good to go by just buying the new head unit? And I can just remove the unit without taking apart the entire dash?

I’m planning on purchasing either a Pioneer AVH-601EX or Alpine ILX-W650.

You can reuse the trim plate and brackets.

Hopefully the wiring was done with an adapter harness instead of cutting the factory wiring. If so, once you unplug the adapter harness from the car and radio, you just need to cut off the car-side of the adapter harness and wire it up to the new pigtail harness from the new radio.

If you get another Pioneer 2-DIN, you might get lucky that the connector shape and pinout may be the same so that would make it plug-and-play, no wiring needed, just plug in the new radio where the old one was. Read the wiring diagram/manual that comes with the new radio and try to find the manual for the old one online.

Thanks for that. That’s why I may just go with another Pioneer since the model is almost entirely the same to plug and play.

It was an easy swap, just plug and play. The dash bezel on the other hand was a PITA. I ended up going with the AVH-2550NEX.

Yeah the dash bezels are always fun... I've gotten really good at taking them out after doing it a dozen or so times. Still nothing compared to some of the dashes on Fords though. Good job on the swap! looks great!
