Default subsonic filter - worthless or good for subs?

I have been looking at monoblock amps, and I have seen some that have a subsonic filter. Basically, a high-pass crossover to block frequencies under what the sub can reproduce.. i.e., only allowing frequencies over 15-50hz. I have also seen some inline subsonic filters that are put on the RCA cable before the amp.

Anyone have any info on these?
