stereo stays on
stereo stays on ok i just picked up a 2000 SS and the factory stereo stays on after the car is off and door is opened. the radio can also be turned on with out the key , its live all the time.
Any ideas?
also the head lights are on when the car is running and there is no way to turn them off

Is it an aftermarket radio? It sounds like someone reversed the battery and ignition power feeds. It's easy to do if you don't use an adapter harness because the factory wire colors don't match up with the standard aftermarket colors (e.g. the factory yellow wire is ignition power but yellow is battery power in the aftermarket). The proper connection would be factory yellow to aftermarket red (ignition power) and factory orange to aftermarket yellow (battery).
The previous owner may have unplugged the daylight sensor in the dash. That would cause infinite resistance (open circuit) between the wires so the DRL module would assume it's dark all the time and leave the automatic headlights on. The opposite is used to disable automatic headlights - short the two sensor wires together using a scotch lock and the zero resistance will read as bright daylight all the time, keeping the automatic headlights off.

as for the stereo it is the factory unit, but I do not know if there ever was a aftermarket one installed in the past. will have to pull it and look at the wiring.

Another possibility is the door latch sensor(s) - do the courtesy lights work as expected? If not, it could be because the BCM is not seeing that the door is opened which would also cause the radio to stay on until the battery saver took effect.
Yes, all 98+ Camaros and Canadian Firebirds had automatic headlights. The sensor is in the dash top panel by the defroster vent.
